AUS is a leading supplier of tools and equipment to the ESI, rail, arboricultural and telecoms industry, and my role is to act as Sales Co-ordinator for the rail division.This involves dealing with customer enquiries that come in by phone or email from materials managers, procurement managers and project managers, and managing orders from initial contact through to completion.As it’s a customer-facing role, customer service skills are important, but technical knowledge is also essential. When a request comes in from a customer detailing their requirements, I will research different suppliers and collect information or recommend products that are manufactured by AUS, depending on what best suits the customer’s needs. I then expedite the order to make sure the customer receives everything on time. The role involves ensuring customers get the best price and materials within the required timescales and offering technical support and training when needed. I will also communicate with customers on the progress of their order, while keeping on top of suppliers to make sure there are no avoidable slippages. Although most of my work is office based, I do go out to visit existing customers and to prospect.Having started at AUS as an Admin Assistant and worked my way up to my current role, I have gained a lot of knowledge on the job. I am lucky to work with a team of colleagues who have extensive industry experience and are generous with their help and guidance. It’s a close-knit industry – everyone knows everyone!I’m looking forward to continuing my professional development in this role and to broadening my experience within the industry.
