Team Lead For Iot/Streaming & Analysis PlatformDaqri May 2016 - Jan 2017Los Angeles, Ca, UsDAQRI is developing cutting edge augmented and mixed reality hardware, software and content. This includes active research on machine vision, machine learning, human computer interaction and holographics.I reported directly to the CTO and lead the team that developed a high performance IOT streaming platform for collecting and analyzing sensor data, logs and video data. The system was designed from the ground up to run anywhere: On a dev’s machine, in the cloud, or on an on premise solution. I built the underlying infrastructure for this project as well as many of the individual dockerized components. The infrastructure was built using the following technologies:- AWS (VPC)- Terraform, which defined every component of our infrastructure as code.- Rancher/Cattle for Docker container orchestration and networking. All applications built on the infrastructure are Dockerized. Below are many components I either worked on, or independently built:- Kafka cluster- Mosquitto cluster (mqtt broker)- Kafka streams applications (some Java, mostly Scala)- Zookeeper cluster- Spark cluster- Angular applications- Node.js applications- Python applications- Jenkins (multi branch pipelines with groovy)- ZeroMQI was the first person at Daqri to build out a full multi-environment cloud infrastructure using purely terraform (no AWS console), and my team was the first to build out a complex, fully Dockerized system. This lead to a few internal resources that are widely used and referenced at Daqri including:- a tool called tf-env, which makes managing multiple environments with terraform extremely easy. - a detailed Terraform style guide including a sample project.- a detailed Docker style guide, including how to make projects rancher friendly.Because of my understanding of these technologies, I guided several internal teams in their use. -
