To stay current in new tech trends, and to exercise skills that I don't generally have the opportunity to use in my job, I started Dyspro. I take on work for local businesses, working in web design, custom programming, hosting, branding, and print media. I generally take work that can be completed within a single-month sprint of morning work before going to work, and then weekends where available.This has allowed me to gain real-world experience in emerging technologies, which I then pitch for use to my employer when I feel it's a good fit.

I was drawn to Amazingmail for the interesting challenges that come with with the web-to-print industry. We allow postcards to be created online that turn into an identical tangible item. This is all through a system that allows for a mailing to contain hundreds of thousands of personalized mail pieces, but is still open for anyone to send a single card to their grandmother. The system complexity to support this, and required UX considerations have kept me motivated in this company through all these years.

Within this position, I was able to expand upon my experience and build more complicated applications.

After a year in school, I felt ready to break into the industry. At this point, I was comfortable with HTML, CSS, and some JavaScript, which were core competencies for an open position at this company. Rather than applying for this job directly, I asked for an internship. After being accepted for the position, I was given the opportunity to expand into PHP development to build the company intranet.
