I am a former K-12 teacher and current PhD candidate in STEM Education with an interdisciplinary emphasis in Cognitive Science.I research approaches to prepare and support teachers to design and implement curricula that center civic engagement as a goal of science education. I use both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate teacher cognition and to better understand the outcomes of various interventions in both teacher education and the K-12 classroom.In addition to research, I teach various undergraduate and graduate-level courses in UCSB’s Departments of Education and Environmental Studies, and I have coordinated and managed a University-Community Links program providing community-based environmental science and literacy education for underserved K-8 students.
