Matt served as a Fire Support Officer assigned to a Light Infantry Company in Kosovo and as an Assistant Operations Officer with a Field Artillery Battalion in Afghanistan. In these roles, he composed training programs and operations schedules, analyzed performance metrics to determine change over time, and monitored operations in real time over the entire country of Afghanistan. Matt developed several novel techniques - including the adaptation of engineering survey technologies to base defense tactics - allowing sentries to quickly determine the location of adversaries nearing a camp's perimeter in the age before the widespread use of GPS. The teams of 6-10 people he trained and led were responsible for monitoring and assessing the movement and performance of organizations ranging from 120 to 450 Soldiers.Assigned to 3d Battalion, 6th Field Artillery, 1st Battalion, 32d Infantry, and 1st Brigade, 10th Mountain Division
