Matt Skinner began investing in apartment buildings in 2009 after the financial crisis left many devastated. After being a real estate developer for the previous ten years, when financing dried up for his projects, he observed that investors who owned cash flowing apartment buildings were the only ones thriving during the recession... and decided right there that from that moment on he would bullet proof his investment portfolio by owning cash flowing multifamily assets. Matt got a mentor who owned nearly 10,000 apartment units and studied under him for over a year. Then set out to buy his first building in Los Angeles,After several buildings and extensive market cycle study, Matt took his investors to Texas in 2009 and began buying value add apartment buildings. In 2014 Matt noticed there were tens of thousands of new permits being applied for in Dallas to construct new apartment buildings and began exiting that market. In 2014 Matt took his investors to Phoenix to buy in front of their job growth boom there (caused by the tech industry). Like Texas in 2014, Phoenix is now the fastest growing city in the U.S.
