My practice focuses on commercial bankruptcy, creditors' rights, and commercial foreclosures and receiverships. I serve as the leader of Ballard Spahr's Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice group and co-leader of the firm's Distressed Assets & Opportunities initiative. I represent secured lenders, trade creditors, asset purchasers, landlords, indenture trustees, bondholders, mezzanine lenders, debtors, officers and directors, and litigation defendants (among others) in all aspects of bankruptcy cases and bankruptcy related litigation. My practice is national- with cases in Delaware, New York, Texas, Florida, California and Maryland (among many other states). I also have a unique background in municipal bankruptcy matters, having represented the largest holder of pension certificates in the City of Detroit and City of San Bernardino chapter 9 cases, and currently representing the City of Chester, PA in its chapter 9 case. I regularly advise parties to a transaction during documentation on strategies to minimize risk to the client in the event the other party to the transaction becomes insolvent or files for bankruptcy, and I am involved in providing formal legal opinions regarding matters of Delaware law and federal bankruptcy law in complex transactions. I am honored that our Delaware bankruptcy practice was ranked by Chambers in 2022 and 2023, and am proud that our team received this well-deserved recognition.
