As a kid growing up in the southeastern United States, most of my days were spent outdoors practicing and playing baseball with my father, you’d rarely find me indoors. Looking back on these times as an adult, I realize that baseball was much more than ‘just a game’ to me; and to my father it was more than a positive way to channel my childhood energy. It was a way for me to learn that winning requires hard work & dedication. It was a way for me to discover that loosing requires humility & a commitment to improve. And most importantly, it was a way for me to understand that win or loose, the ongoing process of self-improvement is what really matters in life.Fast-forward to today, I never did make that Atlanta Braves roster, instead my adult energy is focused on a newfound passion for the game of golf and my career in software for the golf industry. Although I didn’t realize it at the time, the lessons I learned on the baseball field as a kid are used daily to find success in my professional life. Hard work & dedication is required to develop/maintain the absolute best marketing software and customer service on the market. Humility and a commitment to improve is required to keep up in a fast-paced industry and to strengthen product weaknesses. And the process of self-improvement is absolutely necessary for growing professionally and being a valuable asset to our company.The beautiful thing about my current position and what I love about it most, not a single day has gone by where it’s actually felt like work. I enjoy interacting with our clients, listening to their feedback, and hearing their success stories. I’m able to learn from seasoned experts in the industry, and work closely with best-in-class golf facilities. I get to focus my creativity and attention to detail on projects that excite me. Plus, to a lesser extent, my golf game benefits from connections made with our clients around the world. In fact, I doubt I could name any downsides to my “job”, and consider myself lucky to be able to say this honestly. And just like the countless hours spent playing baseball in my youth… can you really call it “work” when it provides so much fulfillment in your life?
