I serve as a Trustee for the ACPA Foundation, which exists to provide philanthropic support for the initiatives of ACPA-College Student Educators International.

I worked on several web projects out of the co-working space called 1871 in Chicago. One of those projects was RateMyCoaches.com, which I sold to a competitor who plans on merging the two services under the RateMyCoaches brand. I also focused heavily on freelance programming work. I worked with a wide range of clients, from one-person companies all the way up to billion-dollar behemoths. While doing so, I sharpened my programming and customer service skills.

I worked directly with the founders of SafeShepherd, both the CEO and CTO. There, I saw the company grow from an idea to a working product with users. I learned a lot about how to start a company, the programming language Ruby On Rails, data analysis, and the importance of data privacy. SafeShepherd was later acquired by another company.

At AlphaZeta, I was thrilled to closely learn how the founder started and grew the company. I did whichever odd jobs needed to be completed, mainly programming tasks. Here, I observed and learned about how a small software business operates -- processes like customer service, project management, product management, and just about everything else that goes into running a small software company. I created the activism site GoHomeIHSA.com. The governing body of Illinois High School Sports (IHSA) was treating small schools unfairly. I made a website, blog, petition, and released several press releases. I eventually earned the right to speak at an IHSA Board of Directors meeting. There, I proposed a plan called "Advancement Based on Ability" that mirrored the "Promotion and Relegation" system that The Premier League uses. The IHSA board rejected this plan in 2005. Nine years later in 2014, they took the same idea, renamed it, and unanimously approved it.The website was a huge success -- it received coverage in the Daily Herald, the Chicago Sun-Times, and several other Illinois newspapers. The website was also featured in Glenn Reynolds' critically acclaimed book, An Army of Davids.
