As a corps member, I taught high school Biology and coached soccer & football at a Title 1 school in Avondale, Arizona. Within Teach For America Phoenix, I served on the Corps Member Board, analyzing data about corps member's experiences in order to make informed plans for professional development and social events. I also volunteered with Teach For America's Community Engagement program, where I connected corporate supporters of Teach For America's mission to the educational community through collaboration and storytelling.

Students in my Biology class began the year with the lowest scores of all 5 Biology classes on campus. They ended the year with higher scores than every other class, on every standard we learned. My students were immensely motivated and hard-working, and I am still friends with and advocates for many of them. I also served as an assistant coach for the freshman football team during my first semester at Agua Fria, and then spent two years leading the JV soccer program as its head coach. During this time, I planned and coordinated a tournament for 8 high schools in Maricopa county, fundraising enough money to support the soccer program's yearly operating budget.

• Showed a class of twenty-two second-year students from the Adaklu Helekpe Senior High Technical School how to see cell biology and taught them to be amazed by the human body, evolution, and the world around us• Studied and researched the role of education in international development• Gave a speech to the whole school about the importance of goal-setting, having a growth mindset, and being persistent, using my experiences on Mt. Kilimanjaro and a group yoga exercise as evidence• Interviewed fifteen candidates the following year and selected two to take my place in 2017
