About Matthew Winchester
I am a multidisciplinary scientist and engineer that enjoys using tools developed across a wide variety of domains to solve challenging technical problems. I am particularly interested in software development (digital signal processing and high performance computing), embedded systems, data analysis, and systems engineering.Throughout my academic career, I trained as an experimental physicist, researching the use of ultracold atoms for precision measurement applications. During this work I gained experience across a range of technical areas, including optics, electronics, and data analysis.I previously worked as a Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute in the Open Systems Development Branch, where I was both a project director and technical contributor. As a project director, I led teams of 1-10 engineers through multiyear and multimillion-dollar projects from initiation to close-out. As a technical contributor, I worked on software development and systems engineering tasks. Our projects covered a range of defense domains, such as radar and electronic warfare, but they shared the common goal of developing prototype systems to validate and promote the use of Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)-enabling standards.
