Cofounder

Beacon Case, Llc

Cary, Nc

This was an interesting journey, even though we ultimately ended up winding the company down. Beacon Case started while I was working at another start-up (MediGuard), as the handcrafted tablet case market emerged. With the help of my long-time friend and co-founder, Jeff Hobble, the idea for Beacon Case transformed from a sketch in a moleskine notebook into a line of handcrafted Kindle Fire and iPad cases. Eager to start manufacturing, Jeff (fantastic woodworker) and I moved into a house that had a massive workshop, and we set about creating a production work-space. We worked with a millwork company in South Carolina to source part of the wooden frame for the case and a family-owned bookbinder in Chicago supplied the covers. We handcrafted an additional component of each case in our workshop, and handled all the finishing and assembly in-house (literally). The final product was a beautiful, handcrafted case that, if run over by a truck, would protect an iPad or Kindle Fire without so much as a scratch on the device or case.I networked with bloggers to promote the cases - resulting in many reviews and even an interview which appeared in the Lead Gen column in Entrepreneur magazine.
