For 42 years, Maud Lyon has guided the development of nonprofits, helping them to improve service to the community while adapting to changing circumstances that alter their business models. As President of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance 2015-2020, she spearheaded exploration of the economic, cultural and political forces re-shaping arts and culture for museums, performing arts, arts education and community arts nonprofits, focusing on social impact and diversity, equity and inclusion. She has broad experience in the way that nonprofits can evolve, working in both the public and private sectors. In her 27 years in Detroit (1987-2014) Lyon founded and led CultureSource, transformed the City's Detroit Historical Department, guided the merger to create the Belle Isle Conservancy, Led Detroit's 300th anniversary year in 2001 and was instrumental in creating Campus Martius Park. Lyon deeply understands how arts and culture brings people together, creates a sense of possibility for individuals and communities - and the practical realities of running nonprofit organizations to achieve these ends.
