About Maureen E. Schafer

Maureen Schafer is the CEO of the OnKai Health Foundation, whose vision is to create health equity. Formerly, she was the founding President and CEO of the Nevada Health and Bioscience Corporation, charged with developing healthcare clinical, education, programming, and capital assets for the Southern Nevada community. After four years of vertical growth, the NHBC managed approximately $300 M+ in existing and current capital healthcare projects in development, while supporting important academic residency development at the Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. She serves as a board member of Blueprint Sports, X2L Bio - Las Vegas, and the Able Channel. She is also the President of the Schafer Company, LLC, providing specialized growth, strategic, and operations advisory services to private, public, and non-profit institutions.Maureen was the UNLV School of Medicine’s founding Chief of Staff in 2014 to launch Las Vegas’s first four-year public allopathic medical school. Ms. Schafer guided the development of an annual $140 million operation, LCME provisional accreditation, 23% diversity UME classes, and a clinical practice plan and GME program transition encompassing approximately 1100 employees. Previously, Ms. Schafer was Chief Emerging Business Officer of Cleveland Clinic Nevada after leading the Las Vegas-based non-profit Keep Memory Alive’s (KMA) $74 million merger with the Cleveland Clinic as its Chief Executive Officer. She leads a Nevada-based CEO group, the Council for a Better Nevada (CBN) as its Executive director. Issues include K-20, revenue policy, campaign finance, transportation, judicial reform, ballot initiatives, and other state infrastructure matters. Ms. Schafer participates in various community & social board engagements. Current board affiliations include the Stanford Center for Longevity and Nevada - Scouting America. Past engagements include the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security, establishing the US Olympic Committee's Center for Safe Sport, Conservation International's Advisory Council, and as Chairman of the Nevada Community Foundation, where the Foundation’s endowment grew from $13 million to $150 million under her leadership. Ms. Schafer holds a BS and an MBA from the George Washington University. (GWU) She holds an MLA in Government from Harvard University. She has attended the Aspen Institute Executive Leadership Seminar.Ms. Schafer is a former competitive collegiate athlete and was fortunate to be an anonymous kidney donor.
