As Person in Charge (PIC), I am responsible for the health and social care needs of residents in the designated centre. This is to ensure the residents in receipt of services receive care and support that meets their needs, is aligned to their wishes and beliefs, is person-centred, respectful of their autonomy and agency and upholds and promotes their human rights. Some key areas of the role; As the Person in Charge, I have a pivotal role in: Service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources – this includes ensuring that there are appropriate governance arrangements (systems and processes) in place to ensure the effective running of the designated centre.Ensure the resident’s voice is heard and that they are involved in the planning and design of their service.Ensuring the designated centre is compliant with the regulations and national standardsSubmitting statutory notifications in line with regulationsEngaging with HIQA and the inspectors of social services to ensure that the centre is compliant with the Health Act (2007) and associated regulations Driving quality improvement in the designated centre through undertaking audits and evaluation of practice and learning from inspection reports. Using the HIQA assessment judgement framework and guidance documents for disability services to take a pro-active approach towards meeting the regulatory requirements and drive quality in the service Leading and advocating for personal centred service by engaging with the residents receiving the service and their families. Maintain a high level of professional ethics and a rights-based approach to all decisions and actions – this is the standard that is set in the designated centre and through modelling this behaviour it is distilled out into the wider team to create a positive culture Maintaining professional standards concerning confidentiality, ethics. I demonstrate personal confidence in evidence-based decisions.

My role as a Person in Charge (Social Care Leader) was to; Lead, manage and co-ordinate the service as the Person in Charge – also to ensure service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources – this includes ensuring that there are appropriate governance arrangements (systems and processes).Ensuring the designated centre is compliant with the regulations and national standards.Submitting statutory notifications in line with regulations.Engaging with HIQA and the inspectors of social services. To work in partnership with stakeholders to ensure delivery of flexible and responsive individual plans based on personal outcomes measures.Responsible for managing and driving the implementation of Individual Plans (IP) and facilitating problem-solving and negotiating solutions to deliver Person-Centred services.Managing, developing, and supporting staff, individually and as a team, including induction, probation, supervisory support, and training in line with the Association’s practices.
