- Manage of patients with mechanical circulatory devices; Heartmate II LVAD, Heartmate III LVAD, HeartWare HVAD (LVAD, RVAD and BiVAD) and Syncardia Total Artificial Heart -Provide patients and caregivers education before and after implant and assessing patient and caregiver’s knowledge -Provide education and support in the inpatient and outpatient setting for patients, caregivers, providers and community resources - Participate in clinical trials: PREVENT, Momentum and Endurance clinical trials- obtaining consent, assist in collecting data, collaborate with physicians to identify areas for further research, provide education to patients and caregivers- Initiate and present nursing research projects-Actively participate in national and international meetings to exchange knowledge and information in the area of cardiac surgery and heart failure management -Develop and integrate new and existing practices into the VAD Program Policies and Procedures-Provide reports to medical teams, Fairview, Joint Commission and other as requested-Prepare research studies, patient consents and amendments for IRB review and approval-Develop educational materials form patients, families, nursing and medical staff for each study protocol -Screen patients for potential participation in research studies-Coordinate collection of required information prior to initiation of a study-Coordinate and/or participate in abstraction and recording of data for statistical analysis for research studies-Establish quality assurance measures to ensure integrity and accurate outcome measurement for research studiesProvide verbal and written reports to IRB, funding agencies, regulatory agencies and other appropriate parties regarding progress of and outcomes of studies.
