Entering the Education, Governmental and Grant accounting world has been a interesting and challenging change for me. I provide accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting for multiple funding sources including federal and state funds. Accounting for preschool teachers, and classroom supplies, like doll houses and alphabet puzzles is very different from circuit boards, chemicals and direct labor rates.The Early Childhood Program is part of Poudre School District in Fort Collins, CO. The program has federal Head Start and Early Head Start grants from the Dept. of Human Services, as well as some Title 1, Colorado Preschool Program and Special Education funds. Time and effort reporting is required to allocate salaries across funding sources. Compliance with numerous grant and OMB requirements is necessary. A Single Audit of all funds including both financial and program compliance is conducted annually.There are 32 teachers and 30 to 40 paraprofessionals teaching morning and afternoon preschools classes. In addition, EHS provides a family support program for families prenatal through the child's transition to preschool.
