I’m interested in collecting strategies that develop culturally diverse collections and better represent previously marginalized individuals in our communities; new ways to engage and collaborate with visitors in object based learning; multiple points of view in the interpretation of history, culture, and art; collaborative storytelling; and helping people discover and preserve their family and community history.Recent collaborations I’ve contributed to include:History Inspires - a program that encourages creators (visual artists, musicians, and other creatives to utilize the Filson’s collection as a source of inspiration; and that provides a venue for their work to be performed or seen. First American West - a digital exhibit that highlights the Ohio River Valley as America’s first western frontier; focusing on materials that share the stories of previously excluded groups.People, Passage, Place: Stories of the Ohio Valley - a physical exhibit that highlights the Ohio River as a place of geographic, cultural, and community confluence. The river serves a metaphor that allows us to examine our constantly changing landscape, communities, and our understanding of history. This exhibit features diverse and inclusive stories of the past as well as contemporary community issues. Designed to be flexible so that new material and stories can regularly be rotated.Covid-19 Poster Project - Commissioned 7 regional artists to create posters that documented their experience throughout the pandemic and racial justice movements of 2020. The project leveraged the power of words and images to document, interpret, and find inspiration in a challenging historical moment and culminated in an exhibition. My subject interests include American and regional history, family history, women’s history, material culture, textiles—particularly quilts, as well as art history and role of the arts / artists in our local communities.
