After my experiences in patient care, curriculum and program development, I know first-hand that nurses need access to quality information for their practice and for their education of patients. As Klein-Fedyshin's article ,"Translating evidence into Practice at the End of Life" in Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing reveals, nurses need access to and use of available evidence for quality patient care, patient education, and help in identifying clinical questions. My core beliefs are that life-long learning is essential to successful health care outcomes. In the recent report from the Institute of Medicine’s “Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health”, the authors recommend that there is a need to ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning that will enable them to provide care for diverse populations across the life span, and ensure evidence-based interventions that then result in improved health care outcomes in our evolving health care systems.I create easily accessible resources for nurses and other health care providers that enable them to routinely focus on what matters most. I regularly evaluate curriculum, which is key to producing current, more efficient education that incorporates the most up-to-date technology. My passion for research compels me to continually develop quality, evidence-based education modules for nurses and other health care professionals therefore, creating interesting and relevant topics for nurses so that they feel more confident and empowered in their roles.

Director Of EducationMidwest Palliative & Hospice Carecenter Oct 2001 - Jul 2015Midwest Palliative And Hospice CarecenterIn order to learn all I could about hospice and palliative nursing, I started my career with Midwest as a hospice nurse. I transitioned to the education department in 2010 and felt my experience gave me great perspective on the intricacies of bedside care and independent practice, as is typical in homecare settings. I also honed my leadership abilities when I became Director of Education in 2012.My accomplishments include: - Developed evidence-based CEU programs for staff approved through the Ohio Nurses' Association- Led the sponsorship from the Illinois Department of Professional and Financial Licensing of continuing education nursing programs for our organization- Developed, and help redesign clinical orientation program for our hospice, palliative care nurses, physicians, and CNAs- Developed online procedures/quizzes for hospice nurses and designed a Youtube video on Psychotropics for Long Term Care patients for our nursing staff- In collaboration with our Medical Director, developed and designed independent education modules on pain management and delirium for new physicians and nurses- Managed ongoing yearly skill competencies of staff- Managed, revised, monitored community and internal programs on palliative and hospice care- Facilitated department's revision of the education curriculum to include best practices in palliative care, hospice care and bereavement -
Associate Director Of ResearchEmergency Nurses Association 2000 - 2001Des Plaines, IlMy primary role was to manage the large data set for the annual survey of members as well as to review member's research applications for grants and annual conference presentation. What I learned at my short stay with ENA was that I'd rather be developing programs rather than managing large data sets as I am more inclined to be "hands-on" with patients and staff. -
Assistant ProfessorLoyola University Chicago 1998 - 2000Chicago, IlAfter obtaining my doctorate, I immersed myself back into academia with teaching the medical-surgical and oncology-related content to undergraduate nursing students, which included clinicals. I also taught the pharmacology course to these students, a daunting task. What I learned most from this experience was that academia wasn't my "niche" after all. The Lakeside campus was extraordinary, though, and I loved going out whenever I could during my breaks to sit by the lake and contemplate. -
Research AssistantRush University Medical Center 1990 - 1998Presbyterian-St. Luke'S Medical CenterI learned a lot about research and managing data during this time as I was working on my dissertation as well as doing research for the Genetics Course, which included an online research data base for the students. I also was the data manager for the faculty department's research which included a study of Nutrition Supplementation in Early HIV with Dr. Joyce Keithley, PI, and Marion Broome's study of Nursing Intervention for Pain in Cancer Patients. To say I learned about research from the best is an understatement.
