Each day I am inspired by the dedication, resourcefulness and passion of our staff and volunteers. The most important thing I do in this role is support their success, by making sure they have the resources and tools they need to excel at their work. EAL is a small organization, so as ED I wear many hats: Chief Program Officer, Development and Marketing Director, Facilities Manager, Human Resource Coordinator and Office Sanitation Engineer. I have guided this organization through some challenging times, including the loss of a state contract, an experience that tested me in many ways but also reaffirmed my faith in the power of a grassroots collective voice to make change. The English At Large community is awesome, and I am proud to be part of it. -

Through events, communications and in-person relationship-building, I was able to raise the profile of F&CS in the community and engage the board and staff at all levels as ambassadors of the mission. I most enjoyed this aspect of my work, as it encouraged the staff to share the stories that forge strong relationships with our stakeholders and contribute to the self-esteem of the agency as a whole.

Director Of Development & AlumniMatignon High School Sep 2005 - Apr 2007Matignon High School benefits from the support of a highly-committed Alumni Board and hard-working Parents Group. It was such fun to work with these creative, high-energy people! Together we engaged an alumni of over 8,000 to increase their presence on campus and more than double their participation in the Annual Fund. With my support, the Matignon Parents Group reopened the school store, coordinated concessions and became effective volunteers at all levels of school operations. We put systems and practices in place that will serve the school for generations to come.

I became Director of Public Relations & Development in 1999. My responsibilities required that I develop skills and create events and activities which stimulated and increased fundraising across all constituencies. I also took over as coordinator of a capital fundraising campaign. I was fortunate to work with a fabulous board of directors, which served as a perfect example of high-quality governance which fully embraced its fudiciary, visionary and fundraising responsibilities. This experience helped to shape my career and personal commitment to the importance of community-based organizations as responsive agents of change.
