About Maurice Swinney, Edd
I’m a dedicated educational leader focused on supporting students furthest from opportunity while also ensuring that all students have the resources they need to succeed. While my career started as a teacher and principal in my home state of Louisiana, I came to Chicago in 2012 with the hope of changing the narrative for students of color. In my 10 years with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), I served as a high school principal, as the district’s first-ever Chief Equity Officer, and as Interim Chief Education Officer. My work in each of these roles shared a common foundation of equity to create student-centered learning environments that improve academic outcomes across all parts of the city.
