I love the balance in life that comes from working hard to develop a successful business; helping our clients with their risk management protection; developing new advisers and new businesses in the Financial Services space, and probably most important of all, creating this space for leadership to develop.I have been a Financial Adviser since 1980 (33 years!) and Maurice Trapp Group developed with my two new business partners Andrew Lacy and Brent Wright, who recognised some valuable systems, processes, beliefs and standards that I work within. MTG now has 12 advisers, offices in Auckland and Tauranga and specialises in working with SME business owners and professionals.Developing MTG led to the bigger picture "stuff" of sharing our experience and knowledge with many others in the industry and encouraging others to join and grow the Financial Services profession. We created a Dealer / Distribution group called Ginger Group Financial Services. As its name suggests, this is a group that sees that change is necessary - New Zealand is $193 billion under-insured in Life cover, $25 million is the shrinkage in premium payments over recent years - who can't get passionate about taking some responsibility for improving this balance?I learnt my passion for coaching / sharing / developing through rugby. Having coached the Auckland Rugby Team for the 5 years between 1987 and 1991, 93 games played and losing only 3, records were created along the way. In this environment one learns quite a bit about motivation, goal setting, selecting the right mix, culture, values and purpose! I now help business owners with these matters. Helping them through the various stages of their business journey - from start up, to good times, to payback and through to succession.
