About Mauricio Serrano

For the last twenty five (25) years, I have been actively engaged in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Industry by working and building an international career in Shell and PDVSA (Venezuelan State Oil Company) within the Health, Safety and Environmental field. I have been heavily involved in Safety and Risk Management covering both personal and process safety in upstream and downstream operations and Greenfield/brownfield projects thru the development and implementation of HSE-MS, HSE Cases, Risk Assessments, Safety standards, Asset Integrity Process Safety Management and Hazard and Effects Management Process (HEMP) tools during operational and maintenance activities as well as throughout the project lifecycle in Oil and Gas field projects onshore/offshore/greenfield/brownfield. Assignments have covered the operational phase, contractors management and project lifecycle from cradle to grave and have provided both the hands on and managerial opportunities to grow solidly in the HSE field with exposure and responsibilities over HSE in contracts, Environment, Health and Social Performance areas as well. Qualifications include educational background on industrial hygiene and fire protection, and extensive use of Shell DEPs, API, NORSOK, BS, EC, NFPA, OSHA and ASME standards. Additionally, I have had hands on experience dealing with Hazard Registers, HAZIDS, HAZOPS, IPF/SIL, QRA, Layout reviews, Fire protection and use of consequence software packages like FRED, PHAST, Canary and Safer when carrying out Consequence Analysis. As part of my training and professional and cultural development, I have attended several courses and seminars abroad as speaker, remaining active in SPE conferences. All the above form the core of my experience which has been enhanced with the subsequent supervisory and managerial roles in HSE as my career has progressed.
