Promeras (Promovendi Erasmus) is the PhD-wide council at the Erasmus MC. Within Promeras we organize social drinks, networking events, career development days and setup novel courses with our graduate school, from different internal working groups aimed at mental health, international students, and diversity and inclusion. We represent PhDs and defend their rights by policy change through collaborations with the deans and advisory councils at the EMC and EUR (Erasmus University Rotterdam) wide levels, and at a national governmental level in collaboration with the PNN (Promovendi Network Netherlands).

My PhD is on developing bioinformatics tools to progress understanding of our cell models in neuropsychiatry. First, I focused on single-cell RNA sequencing data for cell type characterization of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived brain organoids containing neurons, astrocytes, and microglia. For this, I developed a pipeline with Seurat in the R statistical programming language. In the future, I aim to progress this towards spatial transcriptomics on multiple integrated organoids on chip collaboratively within the Dutch Brain on Chip consortium (NOCI).Now, I'm focusing on examining electrical activity from our 2D neuronal cultures and 3D brain organoids via high-density microelectrode arrays to investigate functional network dynamics. My objective here is to measure real-time electrical field potentials interacting with artificial intelligence based in-silico simulation models that provide neurofeedback through electrical by closed-circuit loops to study fundamental mechanisms of neuronal development and connectivity.
