I would like to share with you the wealth of experience I have to offer in retail, as well as a specialist children’s hospital environment. Most recently, I have had the privilege of being the very first pharmacist to complete his community service at The Nelson Mandela Children hospital (One of only two pediatric hospitals in South-Africa). During my tenure there, I was responsible for the following.Formulating and dispensing dosages which are not commercially available and manufacturing them as required by specialist doctors.Managing and using a Laminar Flow Chamber to make sterile Ketamine-filled syringes on special request, mostly to be used in the Pediatric and Neonatal ICU.Managing transfers of schedule 5, 6, and section 21 drugs from the Pharmacy to and from more than ten wards.Checking dosages and signing off medicine charts and scripts of pediatric, neonatal, and ECMO patients. Doing the daily cash-up, banking and month-end closing.Receiving schedule 5, 6, and section 21 drugs. Making sure it is correctly captured, documented, and stored according to regulations.Auditing schedule 5, 6 and section 21 drug books of our wards. Ensuring that they correlate with ward stock on hand, as well as SAP, and investigating discrepancies. Attending ward rounds where lab results of “complicated cases" are discussed with our clinical pharmacist, microbiologists and other consultants in order to provide comprehensive drug monitoring services.The list goes on, but I consider the duties mentioned above as the core of what I do. I consider myself a “keeper of medicine”. As you can see, I am exposed to a wide range of working situations inside the pharmacy and surgical department, which I believe gives me an excellent understanding of the dynamics in which a pharmacy as a whole should successfully operate.At the other end of the spectrum, while working in a privately owned retail pharmacy inside of the prestigious “Val de Vie Estate”, It was expected of me to acquire extensive knowledge in providing exceptional customer service - always walking the extra mile to meet the demands of our world class clientele.For any additional information or questions you might have, please do not hesitate to contact me.
