Front-line representative of the National Park Service in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Staffed the registration kiosk at Smokemont Campground. Educated visitors about the park's history, resources, regulations, and recreational opportunities. Assisted with training and supervision of volunteer campground hosts at three campgrounds.

Spent four days/three nights in the backcountry of Nantahala National Forest, along sections of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.). Educated the public about the A.T., Leave No Trace ethics, and the local area, while also collecting trash, maintaining backcountry privies, and performing some basic trail maintenance.

Two 8-month seasons (late Feb.-Oct.). Patrolled sections of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) 5 days/4 night per week. Educated the public about the A.T., the national park, and Leave No Trace ethics, while also collecting trash, maintaining backcountry privies, and performing some basic trail maintenance.

Responsible for the supervision, daily planning, mentoring, and 24-hour safety of at-risk teens on backcountry expeditions and at base camp. Worked closely with clinical staff to facilitate therapeutic outcomes for students. Taught backcountry hiking and camping skills, as well as Leave No Trace ethics.

Led educational and recreational programs focusing on nature and the outdoors. Assisted with setup and facilitation of educational summer day camps and special events. Staffed visitor information desk.

Staffed visitor center desk, where I collected park entrance fees, educated the public about the park and local area, and took reservations for guided hikes. Provided interpretation of the park's history and natural resources during roving trail patrols and guided interpretive hikes.
