Special education is an interesting field. You are a teacher without actually being a teacher, you are a member of all teams but not actually a member of any team, and you will constantly wonder where you fit. In my opinion it is OK not to fit. You may be asked by your students "why aren't you a real teacher?", and your colleagues may say "how does it feel to be a real teacher?" if you are asked to lead a class for an activity day. Life as a special educator is a balancing act and it is never the same from day today. I feel that all educators should be special educators but I am not sure I could ever go back to being a general educator. I thrive in my environment and so do the kids I teach because everything I do is done for them in the most individual way possible.
