The mission of HeirShares is to provide education and tech-driven solutions to families and service providers for family owned real estate. We are developing comprehensive tools to unlock resources and help families avoid the risk of loss, an issue plaguing families across the country and something each of the three HeirShares founders has personal experience with as heirs property owners. HeirShares will be a national leader in heirs' property resolution, empowering families to achieve generational resiliency and wealth through education, technology and thought leadership.

Loeb Fellows are accomplished practitioners, influential in shaping the built and natural environment, whose work is advancing positive social outcomes in the US and around the world. In the middle of promising careers they step away from their hectic professional lives for one academic year. Fellows audit classes at the GSD and throughout the vast network of Harvard and MIT. They engage with faculty and students, participate in Fellowship events, and collaborate with their peers. Mavis synthesizes her professional experiences as a lawyer and mediator with her passion for helping individuals and families maintain and grow wealth. She accomplishes this by dedicating her energy to assisting her clients with estate planning, estate administration, and problem solving of complex family-owned land matters (heirs property).

On this year-long sabbatical I had the opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends around the world. I also continued to build The Gragg Family Fund, which my sister and I started in 2013 in memory of our parents. This sabbatical provided me with critical reflection and growth that has led to the creation of The Gragg Law Firm, PLLC.

Worked with a variety of financial services clients, including banks, mortgage lenders, and mortgage servicers on regulatory, compliance, litigation and transactional matters related to mortgage origination, servicing, and foreclosure. Prepared multi-state regulatory surveys and analyses on various topics, including foreclosure requirements, notice requirements, deceased borrower issues, and SCRA requirements. Examined loan files, foreclosure files, and corporate documents subject to litigation and government investigations related to mortgage lending practices. Conducted interviews of foreclosure law firms for compliance with state and federal foreclosure laws. Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist with ACAMS. Fellow with the ABA Law Practice Division.

Represented borrowers and homeowners in residential real estate transactions. Carried out all aspects of title searches, title review, and preparation of title commitments. Drafted legal documents for real estate matters such as purchase and sale contracts, settlement statements, deeds, promissory notes, and easement conveyances. Reviewed/prepared closing documents and conducted closings. Represented estate administration fiduciaries in claims with U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the North Carolina Bar Client Security Fund and North Carolina State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property program. Prepared estate qualification documents, accountings, and individual and estate income tax returns. Proofread Edwards’ North Carolina Probate Handbook for editor.

Mediated disputes arising from on-line transactions in the eBay marketplace. Facilitated dispute resolution in web-based forum taking into consideration geographic, cultural, time and financial barriers.

Administered mediation programs that provided dispute resolution alternatives to parties referred from local courts and schools. Conducted intake process to gather information about the dispute and advise potential parties of the mediation process. Managed mediator roster including recruiting, training, scheduling, and compliance with state law and organizational policies. Scheduled meditation sessions and issued reports to district and small claims courts regarding mediation outcomes. Consulted organizational clients in conflict resolution and communication. Developed and led conflict resolution trainings delivered to professionals and organizational clients.
