Worked on the AWS Identity & Access Management team which operates the authentication systems for AWS and the external "IAM" web service. (http://aws.amazon.com/iam) We operate systems which reliably distribute state worldwide and serve hundreds of thousands of requests per second.During my tenure on AWS Identity, I've helped launch "IAM Roles for EC2 Instances", an AWS product that securely provides credentials for EC2 Instances that grant access to use other AWS services. (http://aws.typepad.com/aws/2012/06/iam-roles-for-ec2-instances-simplified-secure-access-to-aws-service-apis-from-ec2.html) As part of this work I delivered an acceptance testing mechanism used to validate the launch-readiness of the feature and evaluate performance at scale.Most recently, I was technical lead for a development team which is building enhanced data security solutions for AWS customers. In this capacity, I generated 10 patent applications in the cloud computing and security space.

Core member of the team which designed and developed Amazon's extensible service development platform spanning several languages and multiple internal and external network protocols. Worked directly with AWS and internal project teams to build and migrate software on the platform. This platform is now used across Retail, Kindle, AWS and elsewhere, powering tens of thousands of internal and external services at Amazon. In this role I generated one patent application in the distributed systems space.Designed and implemented corresponding client software for used to invoke web services running various Amazon-developed service frameworks. Developed pass-through mechanisms to enable service and client schemas to evolve independently. Defined and implemented platform support for REST services. Implemented metrics gathering and aggregation library used across Amazon's service infrastructure. Helped launch Amazon CloudWatch, providing platform expertise and migration support. (http://aws.amazon.com/cloudwatch)Helped launch Amazon's internal key management solution which provisions and manages cryptographic secrets across a fleet of 1mm+ hosts in data centers around the globe.(I continued at Amazon after October 2011, but transitioned to the AWS business unit.)

Built an internal web application for management and playback of streaming video content, using MS .NET. Replaced traditional satellite broadcast technology for corporate events with network streamed video for dramatic cost savings, and opened new opportunities for teams to collaborate and train through recorded video. Built self-service tools for staff to enter event data and attach presentation slides to video content.
