Website: www.maxanderson.com.auI produce words. Lots of them. For the last three years I've been managing editor at the very lovely family-owned company, HWR Media. HWR believes in print as much as I do; it's been a pleasure to get behind pubs like The Note (a proud comeback for music street press in SA), Saluti! (the country's only magazine for Italian-Australians), Ingrain (free magazine for farmers) and 12 of 13 regional guides for the SATC.I'm currently head of comms at AusHealth, a remarkable charity that is finally telling its story after 39 years. (Fun fact: AusHealth's prodigious turnover qualifies it as a Top 100 company in SA; last year it gave $4.5m profits to research into cancer, diabetes and immune disorders.)Still with unsung success stories, I'm currently writing the history of Detmold Group, a $700m packaging company. This follows on the success of another book telling a corporate story -- actually a rollicking read on Glen McMahon, the hell-raiser and patriarch who was behind another $700m private company, McMahon Services. For 30 years I freelanced for newspapers (Age, SMH, several British broadsheets) and magazines (Gourmet Traveller, National Geographic Traveller, Conde Nast Traveller, inflights). Travel was my main 'thing' but I regularly went off-piste, covering the likes of motor sport, mining tech and Aboriginal cave burials. I was Deputy Travel Editor of The Sunday Times (UK) from 1999-2001. And from 2009-2015 I was Editor of quarterly mag Adelaide Hills Magazine which won Australian Regional Publication of the Year three times. As a copywriter I've sold Microsoft software, five-star resorts, South Australia (migration, education and tourism), wine labels and the Northern Territory (tourism). I'm regularly called upon to organise and write content for websites; clients have hailed from government (DTED, Education Adelaide), not for profits (St Ann's College) and biotech (Marine Bioproducts CRC). In 2019 I wrote and co-produced 'The Greatest Air Race'. The one-hour documentary was about the first flight from London to Darwin, undertaken by Sir Ross Smith in 1919. It was presented by astronaut Andy Thomas and went to air on SBS. In 2005, I wrote Digger (Picador UK), a non-fiction account of my time as a gold prospector in a remote West Australian mining town called Kookynie, population 13. Reader's Digest loved the book and reprinted its exuberant outback profanity in four languages. Feel free to sample my work at www.maxanderson.com.auThanks for looking.
