Advised by Dr. Lucy Lu Wang- Paper accepted to the Scholarly Document Processing workshop at ACL 2024- Measured how well various NLP models are able to track information change across academic papers- Developed a dataset derived from the S2ORC and SciFact datasets for future work- Trained models on the dataset to determine whether a paper supports, contradicts, or is unrelated to a given claim (scientific claim verification)- Compared the current premier model (MultiVerS) with GPT-4 results on the task and utilized in-context learning to improve LLM accuracy

Advised by Dr. Ott Toomet- Applied transfer learning to finetune Microsoft's LayoutLM computer vision model to extract entities from PDFs of court documents (named entity recognition) on behalf of an ongoing UW Public Health project- Utilized the Tesseract optical character recognition model and OpenCV to create a custom data generation pipeline- Documented the workflow for accessible usage by others without coding experience and compared ease and speed of setup to other methods (i.e. multi-modal LLM prompting)
