I am a recent Engineering graduate from The ANU majoring in Renewable Energy Systems and am looking to follow a career path in the energy industry, particularly surrounding the transition to renewables. Currently, I am partaking in Transgrid’s graduate program where I aim to learn as much as I can about the industry and hone my skills through four 6-month rotations. I am looking forward to these next two years and hope to continue learning about this exciting field of engineering.Prior to this, I have undertaken a 6 month internship with the Canberra-based surgical technology startup, Viortec, and have utilised a range of skills I have learnt throughout my time at ANU, in particular the systems engineering process as well as CAD modelling and 3D printing of prototypes. This firsthand exposure to the engineering industry was invaluable to me, especially considering the smaller size and timeline of the company, as I was able to see for myself the internal structure and decision-making process which occurs within the business.My time at ANU concluded in 2023, in which a notable highlight was being a part of the winning team for the 2022 Capstone cohort. Myself, along with 3 team members, designed and developed a working prototype for our project, SmartBin, which aimed to bring awareness and accountability to the commercial waste process and make individuals and their businesses conscious of the way in which they dispose of their waste. This was done using a range of technologies such as weight sensors, methane detection sensors and unique user ID systems. The project was conducted in accordance with Waste Check as we had to determine their needs and requirements of the project, simulating that of a ‘real-life’ client-driven engineering project. This year-long simulation greatly assisted and developed a range of skills, including: communication, networking, systems engineering processes, design processes, software and hardware development, and costing/budgeting.
