I had the opportunity to take part in a two-week work experience program at TP ICAP in which I shadowed brokers across multiple asset classes and assisted with processing trades. This experience gave me an insight into financial markets and strengthened my understanding of the financial eco-system. I gained a deeper knowledge of derivatives, such as total return swaps, and how they are used to manage risk and balance sheets. As part of the experience, I also had the chance to attend a fascinating talk on how algorithmic trading is leveraged to execute orders efficiently. Finally, I spent two days at Liquidnet, a TP ICAP subsidiary, where I observed how cutting-edge technology was being employed to automate the brokering process. Overall, the experience was invaluable, thoroughly enjoyable and helped to further fuel my passion for finance and investing.
