Part of the Metals Engineering Team that is responsible for developing aluminum, ductile iron and gray iron products as well as out-sourced components made from a variety of materials and coatings. Responsible for development of materials, processes, and engineering specifications, ensuring successful launch to production. Collaborate with ConMet plants, suppliers, QA and customers on new technology, products, processes that enhance product performance and value. Investigate opportunities for improving existing materials, processes, equipment, adherence to specifications, and technology for attaining cost reduction and continuous improvement goals.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Develop new products and modify existing products per external and internal customer requirements. This includes, but is not limited to:• Generate 3D models and 2D drawings with support from designers• Ensure compliance with all customer inputs• Analyze FEA and test results, incorporating into feedback loop to ensure all product requirements and acceptance criteria are met• Determine appropriate tolerances, critical characteristic, and material specifications• Design/specify subcomponents• Create and maintain DFMEA and DVP• Incorporate DFM best practices, packaging, and plant feedback• Document complete design process and results through design review• Release necessary drawings and specifications through ECN process• Provide expertise and guidance on key materials for new and existing products - primarily cast aluminum, cast iron, and various steels• Lead projects to improve existing and investigate new materials, processes, equipment, and technology• Lead internal failure analysis activities, incorporating outside resources as needed• Support the development and improvement of strategic suppliers• Collaborate with plant and process teams to align product requirements with core processes and process development• Write and maintain engineering specifications
