As a counselor with Summit Camp and Travel, my primary role is to provide full time support to 30+ young adults with a range of neurodiversity on international travel tours. While our trips are recreational in nature, we work with an ABA model and have a therapeutic mindset in all our activities. Beyond the typical camp counselor responsibilities associated with this job, each day, my responsibilities include:- Working with campers to increase social, emotional, and behavioral skills, as well as skills required to complete activities of daily living.-Communicating with therapists to ensure the implementation of behavioral plans and interventions.-Working with campers in small groups to practice conflict resolution skills as the pertain to issues on the trip as well as focussing on how we can bring these skills to our home and school lives. -Promoting positive coping and mindfulness skills.

After over a decade as a volunteer (7,000+ hours of community service), intern, and now staff member at HorseAbility, I work with all departments to support as needed. My work for the organization most often includes, but is not limited to:-Working closely with Licensed Mental Health Counselors and Therapists to develop DBT based programming rooted in mindfulness practices for our regular programming with veterans, senior citizens, at-risk youth, and children and adults with developmental disabilities. -Directly supporting Therapeutic Riding Instructors, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists to provide Therapeutic Riding lessons and Hippotherapy to clients with a range of disabilities. -Updating and producing training material for 900+ annual volunteers. Recently, I spearheaded the re-structuring of our Camp HorseAbility Volunteer materials. This work was designed to ensure that all volunteer training for Camp HorseAbility provided culturally responsive material as it relates to our diverse groups of clientele.-Communicate with clients, guardians, and partner organizations to plan programming including weekly therapeutic sessions, fields trips with special education classrooms, and therapeutic horse visits.

Ensured an equitable Psychology Department at Skidmore College by creating and implementing a diversity statement for our chapter and changing our department’s structure to a science, allowing foreign students to have the opportunity to have internships in the United States after graduation. My committee and I also worked to increase the accessibility of the Department of Psychology to all students by hosting monthly educational events to the Skidmore College community connecting students to alumni and others in the field of psychology.

As a Research Assistant in the Early Learning Lab at Skidmore College, under the supervision of Dr. Erica Wojkic, I investigated how infants and young children develop an understanding of semantic processes. I coded videos from the SAYcam project, which is a bank of video and audio headcam footage. The recordings were part of a longitudinal project in which three children were recorded during 3 hour weekly sessions from seven to thirty months of age. My coding turned video footage of infants in their natural environments into quantitative data. I specifically coded the relationship that infants had with specific words, by noting the speaker, part of speech, and physical relationship between the child and word.During weekly meetings with the other RAs and Dr. Wojcik, we discussed patterns in our data and theories regarding language acquisition and development in typically developing children. My findings and coded data are included in the paper “Referent-oriented interactions in infancy: A naturalistic, longitudinal case study,” which is currently under peer review and awaiting publication in the Journal of Infant Behavior and Development.
