Dc Social Labs Community Of Practice

Washington D.C. Metro Area

Collaborating with key Impact Hub community members, we catalyzed the formation of The DC Social Innovation Labs Community of Practice. Through a continuing series of sold out events we've inspired a diverse and potent community of practitioners to work together to advance the Social Labs methodology; considered by many to be the leading-edge of deep social innovation. http://www.social-labs.com/course/how-to-design-a-social-lab-washington-dc/"Social Labs", or "Social Innovation Labs", is a social innovation methodology that is quickly being discovered and recognized as the bleeding edge. As they are long-term, holistic, experimental/iterative and harness an ever-expanding and evolving social network of resources, they deliver deep and lasting impact and actual innovative results where so many social programs or charitable efforts only fall short. "Social innovation" as a concept or professional domain is too often challenged by a perception of it being undefined and buzzword-y. Many attempts to add definition fall flat as they alone, no matter how rigorous, only make lists of the 'content' or subdomains of social innovation-- eg, poverty innovation, financial inclusion innovation, education innovation. What 'social labs' does differently than these attempts is to define the principles of social innovation as a 'process' or practice -- stating, to that end, that that which distinguishes social innovation, from other innovation, is 'how' it happens, and 'who' is involved, etc. This framework is essentially 'content-agnostic', and 'process-specific'. The solution(s) are viewed as an emergent property of the community-- emergent from within and at the community's edges. What drives the emergence?... The process. The social lab through time. For more on Social Labs methodology see: http://www.social-labs.com/fieldbook/https://www.presencing.com/theoryu,

Co-Founder, Innovation Director

Washington D.C. Metro Area

- A phenomenal team effort. - In late spring 2009, in the off-hours of my Health and Human Services Video Producer contract, I lead and facilitated Groundswell's first-ever organizational chartering retreat. Immediately thereafter, I wrote our flagship executive summary and initial grant-seeking collateral, secured initial angel supporter/donors and within one month had won us our first break-out funding of $25K, and by 3 months, an additional $85K. - After installing an executive director, I transitioned to lead the program design and creation of the organization's flagship innovation, the non-profit program "WeatherizeDC". This was V.1 of what has later become our signature model we named "Civic Consumption."- I developed the nationally-recognized and first-of-its-kind, "WxDC Community Workforce Agreement," a 'community benefits agreement' between our participating contractors and labor union partners. This agreement ensured above-living wages, health benefits, and career advancement training for those hired as result of the community clean energy work we generated. - Both internally and externally-facing, I employed graphic design, script-writing and video skills to advance our communications strategy/materials. - I managed numerous strategic/operational partnerships for the organization, including Veterans Green Jobs and the D.C. Sustainable Energy Utility, and spoke on behalf of the organization before the U.S. Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Good Jobs Green Jobs Conference. - As DC Programs Director I oversaw a three-fold expansion in the program’s key performance metrics.- As Innovation Director, I designed and built Groundswell's enterprise software, coordinated the design and launch of the organization’s National Training Program, and guided the launch of the organization's new program in bulk community clean energy procurement. - I contributed heavily to the fundraising/development activities.

Video Producer / Media Strategist For Secretary Sebelius- (Contractor)

I worked directly with the Agency's Chief of Communications to develop video and digital media content featuring Secretary Sebelius, HHS and White House Officials, and others involved in healthcare reform. I also took it upon myself to streamline digital media workflows, hacking bureaucracy and outmoded systems where possible. I was offered the upcoming position of HHS New Media Director, and begrudgingly turned it down to follow a different passion and start Groundswell.

Innovator --

Shared Harvest -

Colorado Springs, Colorado Area

Reweaving the social fabric of a foodscape by connecting local farmers and churches. I received a social innovation grant to explore/ conduct R&D on a concept that could help locally-marketing farmers all over the US reconnect with one of the highest pockets of social capital throughout middle-america, religious institutions. For grassroots marketing and community building social capital is king, for local farmers grassroots marketing is king. This required an rigorous effort of values-language translation -- to help bridge the values frameworks of a young, predominantly evangelical Christian faith community with the idealisms of organic family farmers and natural life-stylists.
