About Max Hartenstein

Growing up in the Silicon Valley, I fostered a deep love for science and the environment while simultaneously coming to terms with the discrepancies between scientific knowledge and public understanding. Stuck between my interests in both writing and biology, I decided to pursue journalism to help bridge that divide, and have found a true passion for advocacy journalism. I studied at Emerson College in Boston, MA, where I was most involved in student radio. I minored in Narrative Nonfiction, which allowed me to practice alternative forms of storytelling, such as creative essay writing or documentary filmmaking. I graduated summa cum laude and moved to Washington, D.C., where I currently reside. My interests include music, food, environmentalism, and social justice, and I love to work in the intersections of these subjects. I'm currently seeking work where I can apply my adaptable skills in editing, research, and production to an organization aligned with my values.
