The purpose of this role is to develop and deliver a Community Food Programme for CDT to address issues around food justice, the environment, and the social and economic fractures caused by industrial decline and exacerbated by Neoliberal politics and miseducation. The project's ultimate goal is to address economic, social, and environmental degradation through encouraging community interest, learning, empowerment and action.I currently support community members in growing fruit and vegetables and in the maintenance and development of the Trust's grounds. This provides community members with a chance to socialise, learn new skills, and improve their mental and physical health.I also give cooking lessons honing in on how to cook healthily, affordably, and with minimal food waste, and am exploring further ways in which the trust could deliver services related to food and wellbeing. We also host monthly Community Meals as a healthy, fun way for people to socialise and eat great, healthy food.I am also investigating ways in which the gardens could generate income for the Trust, with the project therefore becoming more self-sustaining and less grant-dependent.
