Education Coordinator for Green Iowa AmeriCorps/Winneshiek Energy District, Decorah.Our mission is to bring energy efficiency to home owners/renters in Winneshiek County through low cost, high impact weatherizations. Building analysis, including a blower door test and CAZ (combustion appliance zone) testing, reveal which air sealing issues to address, and the team installs low flow aerators and LED and CFL lighting leading to energy consumption and cost reductions. We also provide adult and youth education programs focused on energy and other environmental issues, as well as community outreach through volunteering with community partners and other projects. The education coordinator works on weatherizations and leads education planning, contacts, and lessons.

The main goal for the Land Stewardship interns was to identify and remove invasive species from Luther College's extensive and diverse conservation areas. Work included removing buckthorn, honeysuckle, Japanese barberry, and garlic mustard from woodlands - and removing wild parsnip, canadian thistle, crown vetch, sweet clover and others from prairie lands. Additionally, we worked on conservation projects such as tree plantings, Oak seedling caging, trail planning and creation, maintaining bluebird houses, and data collection for experimental plots in an Oak Savanna and restored prairie. Further, we worked as volunteer managers for trail work and invasive removal projects, and education guides for groups touring the natural areas. I also had the opportunity to sit on Luther College's Land Use Planning Committee as a Student Representative
