Max Murray has 8 years’ experience conducting biological research and surveys in California. Mr. Murray has experience working with many native and special status species. He has extensive experience with cypriniform fishes in the Santa Clara River— specifically, with hybrid populations of Owens sucker and Santa Ana sucker and the introduced population of arroyo chub found in the lower portions of the watershed. He is an experienced fisheries and wildlife biologist that is proficient in identifying and surveying for marine and freshwater fishes, marine mammals, macroinvertebrates, amphibians, reptiles and birds. Mr. Murray has utilized electrofishing (backpack and boat), seining, dip-netting, fyke netting, minnow trapping, snorkeling and eDNA sampling methods on various projects to capture and identify native fishes. Additionally, he has experience conducting surveys for special-status plants, amphibians, reptiles, nesting birds and water quality monitoring. An American Academy of Underwater Sciences scientific diver, Mr. Murray has experience conducting underwater fish and invertebrate surveys as well as surveys for eelgrass (Zostera marina) and Caulerpa taxifolia in Southern California. He is proficient in scientific data collection, organization, statistical analysis, and presentation of results. Mr. Murray has extensive experience with data management, analysis, and visualization using the R software environment; the “tidyverse” collection of packages; and base R grammar.
