I first joined the WA Fire and Rescue service as a career firefighter in November 1965, I progressed to a District officer and retired on 17/07/1998.I then joined the WA Volunteer Fire and Rescue services association as an assistant to the then secretary, being provided with a retainer and a vehicle to travel the state of WA, discussing Association matters with 95 VFRS Brigades. My role was to not only provide and gather information but also fully support the Executive members of the association I also towed my own caravan over the next 5 year period.During 2003 our then secretary Rod McNally decided to retire, I was approached to do the Association Secretary's position, which I accepted on the 1/08/2003.I attend all Executive meetings of the Association, providing support to our 14 member executive, I attend as many Zone meetings as possible and also visit all Brigades in the State at least once over a 3 year period.During a revision of the Association constitution during 2009/10 my title was revised to Executive officer.Since the change of FESA to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services under the newly created position of FES Commissioner the relationship between the organisation and this Association has been of the highest standard.
