I am a state registered BMS working in biochemistry. I have experience working autonomously on overnight shifts and am in the process of completing the IBMS specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry. I have experience running analysers throughout biochemistry (Beckman: AU680, AU5800, Access 2, DXI; Roche e411; Thermofisher ImmunoCAP 250) and have received specialist training to process and interpret samples requiring serum electrophoresis and immunofixation using Sebia software. I am fully competent with the technical aspect of the job, including validation and am honing my skills with the clinical aspect of the role. I have experience training colleagues in their job role and have undertaken a training course with the view to aid the training officer with the mentoring of trainees working on their portfolios.

I work in Biochemistry, working mainly in the ESL (Essential Services Lab) at Southend Hospital, but have also worked at the off-site Hub laboratory where most of the GP/non-urgent work is processed. I work with a team of 40 staff within the lab, as well as working out on the wards with non-laboratory staff.Most work revolves around processing samples, following sample pathway from receipt to storage. Had extensive experience running range of analysers within lab, including Beckman AU680, Beckman Access 2 and Roche e411, for which I can load and run samples (both online and offline), run calibrations and QC’s for any and all assays and also run maintenance. Also had the opportunity to show and teach other members of staff on use of analysers, having been asked to cover extra shifts during unsociable hours to help with training and competence.Used to solely run and perform maintenance on Phadia ImmunoCAP 250, processing all allergy samples for South East Essex region for over 16 months; fully competent in use and troubleshooting of analyser and have worked with lab to help with the setting up of the new Phadia at our Hub laboratory, remotely keeping up to date and helping new users on the analyser. Also done a lot of clerical work, including booking in samples, UAT for a new LIMS and troubleshooting IT issues in the lab. I've had training on and have used the Immulite 2000 for analysis of specialised biochemistry tests.Spent considerable amount of time with the POCT team, helping them to carry out maintenance on a variety of machines, including: Siemens RapidLab 1200/500 blood gas machines, Clinitek Status+ urinalysis machines, Bayer Contour blood glucose monitors and Abbott Freestyle Precision Pro/Neo blood glucose monitor. I’ve also trained non-laboratory staff on the use of these analysers, when necessary.Other analysers I’ve used and had some training on include: Roche Cobas 8000, Beckman AU5800, Beckman DxI.

I worked in Cellular Pathology, alternating between one week in Cytology, followed by one week in Histology. I worked within a team of 20 staff, including 4 consultants pathologists.Cytology: Booked in samples (both gynaecological and non-gynaecological) and ran gynae samples on the Hologic ThinPrep 5000/2000. Set up slides for staining and prepared each slide for viewing by cytoscreeners. Also prepared non-gynae slides on ThinPrep 2000 for screening. Carried out other clerical duties, including stock takes and orders for the department.Histology: Worked mainly in the cut-up section, assisting AP's, BMS's and consultants with their daily cut-up. Carried out clerical work, including booking in samples and writing up cut-up dictation. I also had to maintain and clean the lab, including washing of surfaces, manually making up formaldehyde solutions and storing of samples and slides. I was also asked to prepare sections from decalcified samples, including sawing through bones.

Main duties when on bar include; serving of customers, dealing with requests and queries, cleaning of bar and surrounding areas, stocking and general upkeep of bar area.I also have experience dealing with more senior exercises, with duties including sorting out tills and the safe and allocating tasks to other staff members.
