As an urban planner my father introduced me to the industry at a young age. I have been interested in construction since middle school and have become proficient in simple carpentry. For two consecutive summers I gained exposure to the industry as a laborer for Bush Construction Corporation. I was assigned to two sites, a 100+ unit retirement community and a YMCA remodeling. As a laborer I was tasked with preforming basic site work tasks including landscaping, rough and fine grading, forming, pouring concrete, and laying out and installing radiant floor heating system in the condo units. I believe the experience I gained from two summers working construction has given me the skills needed to become a contributing member of any construction team. Since my first semester at Virginia Tech I have been fortunate enough to have two internships. The first was with Leebcor Services, a small government contractor in Williamsburg, VA. This past summer I worked in Richmond for Whiting-Turner Contracting. I was assigned to a partial renovation of the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. These opportunities have provided me with essential exposure which I hope to apply in a full-time position.
