I have thirty years of experience with frontline reporting and political analysis of international current events. As a foreign correspondent for The Economist for 20+ years, I have run our bureaus in Berlin, South Asia, and in the Middle East, where among other events I covered the Arab Spring, the 2003 Iraq war, the 2009 Green Revolution in Iran, and Syrian, Libyan and Yemeni civil wars. I am a frequent contributor to the New York Review of Books and other publications, and the author of 'Cairo: The City Victorious.'
