I am currently in my first year at Leeds Beckett University studying sports journalism. Choosing sports journalism feels like the perfect fit for me, since coming to Leeds I've interviewed professional athletes such as Jack Bateson and Giorgio Visioli. I have learnt to become comfortable in front of cameras and feel at home during interviews. On my actual course, I have been taught how to use software for editing and production purposes, I have attended different sporting fixtures at clubs such as Barnsley and Huddersfield while learning how to create content such as 'on the whistle' match reports, film highlights and have even been allowed to commentate games from the press box.In my second semester I have contributed to two newsdays, with one including live updates from the Leeds Beckett and Uni of Leeds fierce varsity matches; being able to experience how a real-life newsday would go ahead was really useful and something I will remember for when I am employed in the industry myself. In November of last year, I made the decision to join the Leeds Beckett Boxing Society, I had never boxed and had limited knowledge of the sport but now sit in a completely different position. From the second I walked through the Beckett Boxing team's doors I was welcomed as 'journo' and have loved it ever since, boxing has taught me skills such as discipline, keeping composed in high-pressure moments and the routine of daily training benefits my day to day to life.As a part of the Leeds Beckett Boxing Society I have been given opportunities I never even thought would be accessible this early on in my career, I was invited to go down to Portsmouth to help cover the 'British University and College championships' in which the team brought home two gold medals.I have interviewed many members of the team, filmed two different events now to provide full-fight replays and help with the coverage of amateur boxing, something I feel doesn't get the attention it deserves.Being a part of the team has developed my knowledge of the sport significantly, being around experts on a day to day basis has really helped to the point I can cover boxing on a regular basis now. On the 20th of May I was contacted by Matchroom Boxing's Head of Community Development Alex Le Guével, Alex gave me access to an unforgettable fight week for Taylor vs Catterall 2. I had access to the open workout and even got to interview some amateur boxers and 3-0 Matchroom prospect Giorgio Visioli; working around industry experts has given me the motivation to really push on my journey.
