Youth Services Librarian
This internship was a part of the Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program, which provided helpful courses on creating resumes, applying for jobs, and being in a professional work environment, as well as allowing participants to apply for an internship over the summer. During my time at the Richardson Public Library I worked on several long term projects. The first was a puppet show which I wrote the script for, hand made several costumes for puppets, and painted interchangeable backgrounds. Additionally, I made a recommended book list of 40 highly rated junior fantasy books, making sure that each book was relatively new and in our catalog, and I designed a fantasy themed background for it. I also created a space themed bulletin board including several art pieces I made out of construction paper, an interactive activity, and book recommendations. Besides these projects I also helped supervise and set up several children’s programs throughout the year including Young Authors, a program allowing kids to write their own children’s books, the Teen Advisory Board meetings, and several children’s read along programs. Through this job I gained a lot of experience in time management, collaboration, and creativity.
