I am a Senior Technician within the 3SIP2C project using SEM analysis to image, identify, and characterise microplastics collected from Vietnam.

Role highlights:• Coordinated and managed detailed data collection, spatial analysis, mapping and data management projects (QGIS+ ArcGIS). • Wrote detailed technical proposals for further geoscience research (involving international oil companies and government bodies), effectively gaining external project funding (~£600,000 in last three years).• Developed and managed research outputs, such as publications in scientific journals, technical reports for industry sponsors, and large GIS-based datasets on the geology of SE Asia.• Managed recruitment processes to find interviewees for undergraduate research assistants, from advert creation to selecting appropriate candidates.• Processed data with meticulous attention to detail, maintaining accurate, reliable research documentation.• Collected samples and data through primary fieldwork in SE Asia and laboratory analysis, for geochemistry and geochronology or a range of rock and sediment types.

In this role I contributed towards a combined U–Pb detrital zircon geochronology and Raman spectroscopy heavy mineral provenance study of sediments in the Nicobar Fan, as well as producing the SEARG prospectus to attract industry sponsors to join the upcoming 2019–2022 consortium.

This role includes providing in-class and in-field support for course leaders in a range of subjects. 3+ years for 1st year Earth Structures (RHUL); 1 year 2nd year G3: Geochemistry, Geochronology, Geophysics at (UOW); 2 years for 2nd year field and mapping skills training in Almeria, SE Spain (RHUL), 1st year Earth Structures in Charnwood Forest, UK (RHUL), and 1st year basic field skills in SW Devon, UK (RHUL).

In this role I designed and delivered lectures, practical classes, and examinations as module lead on the 2nd year ‘Global Tectonics’ module. This module integrated structural geology at a range of levels from folding patterns in outcrops, to seismic interpretation, and regional plate tectonics.

As a freelance scientific editor I check and correct the English language and grammar of geological journal manuscripts for non-English speaking clients.

My PhD focused on the interaction between the Australian and Pacific plates throughout the Cenozoic using a field-based study in NW New Guinea where a series of island arcs have accreted to the northern margin of Australian continental crust. Key themes: extensive fieldwork including mapping of accreted arc terranes, multiply metamorphosed granitoids and basement rocks, U–Pb zircon geochronology, Sr–Nd isotope geochemistry, major/trace element geochemistry, petrography, and regional tectonics.
