I grew up on sheep/beef and cropping farm in a small town in West Otago, called Tapanui. I went to a local primary school in Waikoikoi before I then completed my high school career at Blue Mountain College. Over my time at high school I was fortunate enough to have many opportunities. These include being able to play a range of sports, go on life changing trips such as Spirit of Adventure and Outward Bound and be head boy. These are all memories that are held dearly and set me up well for my time at Lincoln University. My time at university has been quite a unique experience having to deal with two covid-19 lock downs in 2020 and 2021 and getting covid in 2022. Although these set backs were initially hard to deal with I was still able to meet life long friends, learn a large amount about the Agriculture and Business industry while still being able to have fun along the way. A highlight to my time at Uni was being part of the Lincoln Young Farmers Club, being able to give back to the community while also being part of a big family. Being part of the Sub-Committee meant I helped out at events like the Lincoln Young Farmers Hunting Competition. While being a financial member allowed me to attend day/overnight trips with the club seeing different farms all over the South Island (which was a major highlight). Being at Lincoln University meant that over the summer we were required to do practical work on different farm systems. I was lucky enough in the summer of 2021 to work for Guy Wigley on his cropping farm in Waimate. I was given plenty of opportunities to drive large machinery and learn his farm system. They were very inviting and I am very grateful for the memories he gave me on his farm. As I am now looking to finish my degree at Lincoln University I cannot wait to see what the future holds and I am excited to start my career in the Agriculture Industry.
