About Max Williamson
Max began his career in collectables when Stanley Gibbons Ltd opened an office in Melbourne in 1979, specialising in rare stamps and postal history. He trained in London, spending time with the rare stamps, auctions, publishing, maps and scripophily (old bonds & share certificates) departments. After fifteen years he joined Leski Auctions in 1994, and helped introduce and grow the Sports and General Memorabilia Auctions. He is an expert on cricket and football memorabilia, and a life member of the International Society of Olympic Historians.

Leonard Joel are Australia's oldest auction house, established in 1919. I introduced Sports Memorabilia auctions, the first sale including the collections of cricketer Monty Noble, Olympian Murray Rose & rugby footballer Ray Stehr. We sold the 1909 Monty Noble ashes urn for $80,600.
