Profile bio

About Max Wilson

As a Research Fellow at the Simons Initiative for the Developing Brain (SIDB) at the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences (CBDS) at the University of Edinburgh, I am passionate about exploring neuronal circuits under both physiological and pathophysiological conditions. My research interests lie in the mechanisms underlying cortical and hippocampal neuronal oscillations, with a particular focus on the role of inhibitory signaling in rodent models of autism spectrum disorders, as well as in cortically resected human brain tissue.I obtained my PhD in Neuroscience from Aston University in June 2021, with my thesis titled "Drug Action on Network Activity in Healthy and Epileptic Cortex," which focused on neuronal hyperexcitability and epilepsy, and how anti-seizure drugs alter circuit-level function. During my PhD, I published a first-author paper investigating AMPA receptor inhibition in human epileptic cortical tissue. Prior to my PhD, I earned my Master's degree in Biomedical Science with a specialisation in Neuroscience from the University of Glasgow in September 2015, and my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from the University of Dundee in June 2014.With a strong practical background in behavioural and in vitro electrophysiology techniques, I am driven by a commitment to scientific discovery and innovation. I aim to advance the field of neuroscience in new and exciting directions, contributing to a deeper understanding of neurological and psychological conditions.

Listed skills include Research, Molecular Neuroscience, Behavioral Neuroscience, Western Blotting, and 31 others.
